IMO STATE — Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has donated ₦10 million to support healthcare infrastructure and service delivery at the Ehime General Hospital, located in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

The donation is intended to bolster the ongoing renovation and management efforts at the facility. Ehime General Hospital has recently been handed over to the Catholic Diocese for management, a move aimed at enhancing service quality and ensuring the facility better meets the healthcare needs of the surrounding communities.
Key highlights of the initiative include:
• Facility Upgrades: The funds will support the active renovation of the hospital infrastructure.
• Training Expansion: Plans are in motion to establish a nursing school within the hospital complex, which stakeholders expect will significantly contribute to the training of skilled healthcare professionals in the region.
• Faith-Based Collaboration: The intervention emphasizes the growing role of faith-based institutions in bridging gaps in the provision of essential public services, particularly in the health and education sectors.
Advocacy for Investment
During his visit, where he was received by the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. David Onuoha, Mr. Obi reiterated his long-standing position on national development. He identified healthcare and education as the essential pillars of a productive society, emphasizing that:
"A healthy and educated population remains the foundation for economic growth and social progress."
Obi called on governments at all levels to provide greater support for healthcare initiatives and stressed that strengthening partnerships between the government, private individuals, and religious organizations is vital to addressing challenges in the medical sector and improving general access to quality care.
