Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua finally agree to fight
The long-awaited heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is officially happening.
The two British former heavyweight champions will meet on Friday, December 11, 2026, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, bringing an end to years of negotiations and repeated attempts to put the fight together. The event will be streamed globally on Netflix.
The announcement was made on Thursday by Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh, who confirmed that the fight would take place in the United Kingdom after the location became one of the biggest obstacles in negotiations.
Cardiff chosen as the venue
The fight will take place at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, which has a retractable roof and a capacity of up to 80,000 for major events.
The venue was selected after several locations had been considered during negotiations, including venues in the United States and London.
Anthony Joshua had insisted that the fight should take place in the UK. That position ultimately prevailed, with Cardiff securing the event.
The location also provides practical advantages for a December boxing event because of the stadium's closable roof.
A fight more than a decade in the making
Fury and Joshua have been linked with one another for years, but despite repeated negotiations, they had never managed to reach the ring against each other professionally.
Both fighters have held multiple heavyweight world titles and have been among the most prominent names in British boxing for more than a decade.
Fury enters the contest with a professional record of 36 wins, two losses and one draw, including 25 knockouts. Joshua has a 30-4 record with 27 knockouts.
Their December meeting will therefore be the first professional fight between the two.
Netflix will broadcast the fight globally
Netflix will carry the event worldwide for its members at no additional cost, according to the streaming service's official announcement.
The platform has increasingly expanded its live sports programming and has previously streamed major boxing events involving both Fury and Joshua.
The global distribution means the fight will be available to Netflix subscribers across international markets rather than being limited to a traditional pay-per-view model.
Press conference set for September 30
Fury and Joshua are scheduled to appear together at a press conference in London on September 30, beginning the formal promotional build-up to the December showdown.
Details of the undercard have not yet been fully announced.
The organisers are expected to reveal additional information about the supporting fights and event schedule as preparations continue.
Two former champions meet at heavyweight
The fight brings together two fighters who have spent much of their careers at the centre of the heavyweight division.
Joshua became a unified heavyweight champion and has fought at some of the biggest venues in Britain and abroad.
Fury held the WBC heavyweight title and became the first fighter to defeat Wladimir Klitschko during his initial world-title reign before later returning to the top of the division.
Their careers have also included major victories, title losses and comebacks, adding further context to the December contest.
The next stage of the rivalry
For years, the Fury-Joshua matchup existed largely as a proposed fight rather than an actual contest.
Negotiations repeatedly stalled over issues including location, timing and commercial arrangements.
That changed on Thursday when Alalshikh confirmed the final agreement and announced Cardiff as the host city.
The Principality Stadium also welcomed the announcement, describing the event as a major occasion for Cardiff and Welsh boxing. The stadium said some licensing arrangements still need to be completed before the event.
With the date and venue now confirmed, attention will turn to training camps, the undercard, ticket arrangements and the fighters' final preparations.
For boxing fans, the key fact is now official: Fury and Joshua will finally share a professional ring on December 11.
