FORT LEONARD WOOD, MO. — Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has announced his successful enlistment into the United States Army, marking a significant transition from the entertainment industry to military service.The actor confirmed his graduation from Basic Combat Training on Friday, revealing that his recent ten-week absence from public life was dedicated to rigorous military preparation.
Momodu, now officially serving as Specialist (SPC) J.A. Momodu with the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3-10, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, described the transition as the fulfillment of a long-held personal mission. He stated that his decision to enlist was a direct tribute to his late father, who served in the Nigeria Police Force.

"On April 12, 2026, I honoured my late father in a historic way," Momodu wrote in a social media announcement. "Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigerian Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army."
Reflecting on his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, the actor characterized the experience as physically and mentally transformative. He detailed the challenges of the 10-week program, which required him to endure extreme conditions and complete isolation from civilian life. Despite moments of doubt, Momodu credited his success to a commitment to merit and a desire to push beyond his previous limits.
The actor passed the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) on his first attempt and completed his training without setbacks. He dedicated his achievement to his faith, the memory of his father, and his heritage within the Royal Family of Oba Momodu II of the Avyuele Clan in Edo State.
Momodu’s enlistment marks him as one of several Nigerian entertainment figures to pursue military service abroad, following a trend of Nollywood professionals seeking new paths in international public service.
