Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the clear favorite to win the 2027 presidential election. Speaking in a recent interview, the former governor dismissed the strength of the opposition, arguing that the fragmentation among leading political figures will make it difficult for any challenger to mount a serious threat to the President’s reelection bid.
Fayose emphasized that the inability of key opposition figures, such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, to coalesce into a united front provides a significant strategic advantage to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He described the current state of the opposition as weakened by internal divisions and a lack of a cohesive strategy, which he believes will clear the path for a comfortable victory for President Tinubu.
Addressing the online agitation for the President’s resignation due to prevailing economic and security challenges, Fayose urged Nigerians to remain patient. He noted that the President is currently in the middle of his term and that the administration is working to address the inherited burdens of the previous government. The former governor dismissed the social media rhetoric as largely reflective of partisan interests rather than the broader national sentiment.
Fayose further emphasized his long-standing support for President Tinubu, describing him as a highly beneficial leader for the Yoruba race and the nation at large. He expressed confidence that the President’s commitment to national service and infrastructure development will resonate with the electorate by the time the polls open in 2027. According to Fayose, despite the noise on digital platforms, the President’s performance and the disarray within the opposition camps make his reelection a likely outcome.
In concluding his assessment, the former governor stated that if an election were to be conducted today, President Tinubu would secure a victory by a wide margin. He underscored that the ruling party is prepared to maintain its mandate and that the opposition’s current approach to politics is unlikely to yield the results they desire. Fayose’s comments come as political maneuvering intensifies in anticipation of the upcoming general elections.
