Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has promised to establish a four-year transitional Government of National Unity if elected president in the 2027 general election.

Makinde made the pledge on Saturday, October 10, at the APM North-East 2027 Town Hall Meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, where he presented his proposed government as an inclusive administration focused on national unity and broader political representation.

Makinde Promises Four-Year Transitional Government

Addressing participants at the town hall meeting, Makinde said his administration would deliberately be limited to four years and would bring people from different sections of the country into government.

“I stand before you today to tell you that the government you will put in place from May 29, 2027, will be a transitional government of national unity. Our government will not last beyond four years. And it will be an all-inclusive government.”

He said the proposed arrangement was intended to address concerns about political representation and prevent power from becoming concentrated in one part of Nigeria.

Makinde said his administration would seek contributions from different sections of the country in developing solutions to Nigeria's security and economic challenges.

‘2027 Will Mark the End of Politics of Lies’

The APM candidate also said he wanted his presidential campaign to focus on what he described as honesty, consultation and a reset of the country.

According to Makinde, the APM had deliberately delayed releasing its manifesto because he wanted to listen to Nigerians and understand their concerns before finalising the party's policy proposals.

“Our manifesto is on the way. We have deliberately delayed its release because we wanted to hear from you at this level,” he said.

He further declared that the 2027 election should mark a departure from what he described as the politics of lies and deceit.

“2027 will mark the end of the politics of lies and deceit. It is a time when we will all come together to establish a reset agenda and tell Nigerians the whole truth,” Makinde said.

Makinde Demands Release of Petrol Pricing Template

During the Yola meeting, Makinde also challenged the Federal Government to publish its petroleum pricing template.

He argued that Nigerians should be able to see how the prices of petrol and other petroleum products are determined, particularly amid continuing concerns over fuel prices and the cost of living.

“We are asking for only two things. We do not want too much grammar; we just want relief for Nigerians,” Makinde said.

He called for the government to make its pricing calculations available for public scrutiny, arguing that Nigerians outside government could also offer useful solutions to the country's economic challenges.

Makinde also criticised the government's handling of electricity, energy security and policies including compressed natural gas and electric vehicles.

He recalled President Bola Tinubu's earlier promise to improve Nigeria's electricity supply and argued that the government had not fulfilled the commitments it made to Nigerians.

APM Candidate Seeks National Inclusion

Makinde's proposed Government of National Unity comes as political parties and presidential candidates position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor formally entered the presidential race in May 2026 through an alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party and the APM. He subsequently became the APM's presidential candidate, with former Department of State Services Director-General Lawal Daura selected as his running mate.

The APM has presented Makinde's candidacy as part of a broader effort to offer an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

However, the political arrangements surrounding the opposition remain contested. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has disputed the existence of a formal PDP-APM alliance, while Makinde and his supporters have continued to campaign around the proposed political realignment.

Makinde Says Government Must Listen to Nigerians

The Oyo governor said his proposed administration would place greater emphasis on consultation and would not assume that government officials alone possess the answers to Nigeria's problems.

He argued that citizens with relevant experience and expertise should be allowed to contribute to national policy, regardless of whether they hold public office.

“The fact that you are in government or the Presidential Villa does not make you the only Nigerians with sense,” Makinde said, according to Premium Times. “We have other citizens who can dissect issues and proffer solutions.”

His comments form part of the APM's broader campaign message of a national “reset,” with the party promising to bring together Nigerians from different political and regional backgrounds.

As the 2027 presidential contest develops, Makinde's proposed four-year transitional government will be one of the central elements of his campaign platform, alongside his promises on national unity, economic management, security and energy.
