Nigerian disc jockey and music producer Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has opened up about her experiences with dating, revealing that she has gone on dates with men from very different professional and social backgrounds.
The billionaire heiress, who is the daughter of businessman Femi Otedola, said she has been on dates with a bus driver, a model and a footballer, stressing that she believes people should remain open-minded when it comes to relationships.
Cuppy made the disclosure during an appearance on The ZEZE Millz Show, where she discussed her dating experiences and the type of partner she currently prefers.
‘I actually enjoy dating’
Speaking about her experiences, Cuppy said she has interacted with different kinds of men rather than limiting herself to people from a particular profession or social class.
“I’ve dated a bus driver… well, okay, let me not say ‘dated,’ I’ve gone on a date with a bus driver,” she said, according to reports of the interview. She added that there was nothing wrong with going on a date with someone in that profession.
Cuppy also revealed that she had gone on dates with a model and a footballer.
“I’ve gone on a date with a model, I’ve been on a date with a footballer… so many!” she said.
For the DJ, dating is largely about meeting people, having conversations and learning about them rather than judging them primarily by their occupation or public profile.
“With dating, you have to be open-minded. I actually enjoy dating,” she said.
Cuppy says she now prefers low-key men
Despite describing herself as open-minded about dating, Cuppy said her preferences have evolved.
The DJ explained that she currently finds herself attracted to men with regular nine-to-five jobs who maintain a relatively private lifestyle and are not heavily involved in social media.
“I have dated all kinds of men, a lot of different types of men, and what I find out is working for me now is the 9–5, no social media, super low-key guy that doesn’t really care,” she said.
Her comments suggest that public visibility and celebrity status are not necessarily qualities she is prioritising in a potential partner.
Instead, she described a preference for someone who lives a quieter life and is less concerned about online attention.
Dating apps have become part of her search
Cuppy also revealed that dating apps have played a role in her attempts to meet potential partners.
She mentioned using platforms including Raya and The League.
According to reports of the interview, she said membership on The League costs about £400, highlighting the lengths she has gone to while exploring modern ways of meeting people.
The revelation adds another dimension to Cuppy's comments about dating.
Although she is a globally recognised entertainer and comes from one of Nigeria's wealthiest families, she said she has also explored dating platforms to meet people outside her immediate social and professional circles.
Why Cuppy says people should be open-minded
Cuppy's central message during the discussion was that people should not approach dating with rigid expectations.
Her examples of going on dates with men working in different professions were used to illustrate that a person's occupation or social status does not necessarily determine whether a connection can develop.
She said she has met people from different backgrounds and believes dating provides an opportunity to discover who someone is through conversation and interaction.
Her comments also challenge the assumption that a high-profile person would necessarily seek a partner from the same social or professional environment.
Her comments come amid renewed interest in her love life
Cuppy's romantic life has frequently attracted public attention because of her celebrity status and previous relationships.
She was previously engaged to British boxer Ryan Taylor, although the relationship ended after their engagement became public.
She has also previously been linked to music executive Asa Asika and Nigerian footballer Victor Anichebe, although Cuppy's public comments over the years have varied depending on the relationship or speculation being discussed.
However, her latest comments were focused on her broader dating experiences rather than announcing a new relationship.
The DJ did not identify the individuals she described as the bus driver, model or footballer during the interview.
Cuppy focuses on connection rather than status
Cuppy's comments also reflect a broader point about dating in an era where professional success and social-media visibility can become significant factors in relationships.
As a public figure, Cuppy operates in an environment where her career, family background and social connections are constantly visible to the public.
Her stated preference for a low-profile partner therefore represents a contrast with her own highly public lifestyle.
She said she currently prefers someone who has a normal nine-to-five job, does not maintain a strong social-media presence and is not particularly concerned about public attention.
That preference, however, does not appear to mean she has completely ruled out people from other professions.
Her description of going on dates with a bus driver, model and footballer demonstrates that she remains open to meeting people from different backgrounds.
‘There’s nothing wrong with that’
One of the notable aspects of Cuppy's comments was her insistence that there is nothing unusual about dating someone based on their profession.
Her reference to the bus driver appeared to challenge the idea that certain occupations should automatically be considered unsuitable for dating.
For Cuppy, the profession of a person she meets does not appear to be the sole determining factor.
Instead, she emphasised openness and the opportunity to get to know someone.
That perspective is consistent with her broader description of dating as an experience centred on conversation and discovering another person's personality.
A different approach to relationships
Cuppy's comments provide an insight into how her views on relationships have developed over time.
Rather than presenting a fixed list of requirements for a partner, she described an approach that allows her to meet different people before deciding whether there is genuine compatibility.
At the same time, she acknowledged that her experiences have helped her understand what works for her.
Her current preference for a private nine-to-five worker suggests that the experiences she has had with different types of people have influenced what she now values.
For someone whose own career is highly public, a relationship with someone who prefers privacy could also offer a different dynamic.
Cuppy did not say that she would only date someone with a nine-to-five job. Instead, she described that type of person as what she finds appealing at the moment.
Cuppy says she enjoys the process
Beyond the professions of the people she has met, Cuppy's comments reveal that she sees dating itself as something she enjoys.
She described a date as an opportunity to talk, get to know someone and explore whether there is a connection.
That outlook appears to place the emphasis on the experience rather than immediately trying to determine whether someone is the perfect partner.
Her willingness to meet people from different backgrounds also appears to be part of that approach.
For now, Cuppy says the type of man she prefers has become clearer: someone who is relatively private, works a regular job and is not overly concerned with social media.
But her own dating history, as she described it, shows that she has remained willing to explore different possibilities.
