Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has publicly committed to being on the ground to monitor the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election, vowing to resist any attempts at electoral manipulation. The election is scheduled to take place on August 15, 2026, with the incumbent governor and the singer’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, seeking re-election under the platform of the Accord Party.

Commitment to Electoral Integrity

Davido’s declaration came via an Instagram post on Wednesday, in which he shared a clip featuring Nnenna Otti, a former Resident Electoral Commissioner, discussing the dangers of electoral fraud. The singer used the platform to issue a stern warning to political opponents, emphasizing that he would be physically present to protect the integrity of the voting process.

“On August 15, anybody who tries to rig will face the consequences in the highest order. I will be in the field to defend our votes. Keke must be used if need be!!! @aadeleke_01, I’ve got your back, sir!” he wrote.

Political Activism and Campaign Role

Davido has remained an active and vocal participant in his uncle’s political journey. His latest pledge to monitor the polls follows several high-profile political engagements:

  • Campaign Leadership: In April 2026, the singer was appointed head of youth mobilization for the Accord Party campaign council.

  • Youth Mobilization: He recently inaugurated the "Imole Youth Mobilization Campaign Council" to drive support among the state's younger demographic.

  • Political Allegations: The singer has been vocal in his opposition to political rivals, recently accusing former Governor Gboyega Oyetola of political desperation and inciting unrest in the state.

As the August 15 election approaches, the political landscape in Osun remains intensified. Governor Ademola Adeleke, who joined the Accord Party in December 2025 to pursue his second-term bid, is competing against several other candidates, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominee, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The involvement of high-profile figures like Davido continues to highlight the significance of youth participation and intense public scrutiny in the 2026 electoral process.
