Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido says he always believed he would become successful, but admits the scale of his career and achievements has gone far beyond what he imagined when he started making music.
Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reflected on his remarkable career, saying he always believed he would succeed but never expected his success to reach its current level.
The Afrobeats star made the comment during a recent livestream conversation with Nigerian streamer Enzo, where he reflected on his journey in the music industry and how far his career has progressed.
“I knew I was going to be successful, but I never imagined it would get to this level.”
Davido's latest reflection echoes comments he has made previously about the confidence he had in his musical ambitions before becoming one of Africa's most recognised recording artists.
Davido always believed he would succeed
Davido has previously described his confidence when he was starting his music career as unusually strong.
In a July 2026 interview with Doseofsociety, the singer said he never seriously doubted that his music career would work out.
He described his mindset at the time as “delusional confidence,” explaining that he knew he had talent, believed in his ability and was prepared to work extremely hard to achieve his ambitions.
Davido said he did not necessarily know exactly how success would come, but he believed that his faith, talent and willingness to work would eventually take him where he wanted to go.
That confidence became particularly important when he decided to pursue music despite the expectations surrounding his family.
From aspiring musician to global star
Davido's career began while he was still young and developing his interest in music production.
He has previously recalled sitting in front of his laptop, opening music-production software and deciding that becoming a musician was what he wanted to do.
In an Apple Music interview, he explained that he watched artists and tour videos online and imagined himself achieving a similar career. He eventually transitioned from aspiring producer to recording artist and began building his own catalogue.
What followed was a rapid rise within Nigeria's music industry.

He recalled selling out increasingly larger venues, moving from audiences of around 1,000 people to 2,000 and eventually tens of thousands.

“We sold out 1,000. We sold out 2,000. Damn, we sold out 30, 40,000…”
He made the comments while discussing his 5ive album and the evolution of his career.
The singer said that people who reach significant levels of success can find it difficult to fully explain what the experience feels like.
