ABA — The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man seen physically assaulting a woman in a widely circulated viral video. The suspect was apprehended on Saturday in the Ogbor Hill area of Aba.
Swift Police Response
Operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), under the leadership of CSP Emeka Amanchukwu, executed the arrest following credible intelligence. This action comes after the Command launched a formal investigation earlier in the week to identify the individuals involved in the incident and determine the circumstances surrounding the abuse.
Commitment to Justice
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, reaffirmed that violence against any individual is a criminal offense punishable under Nigerian law.
“Domestic violence, physical abuse, and other forms of assault have no place in a civilized society,” DSP Chinaka stated. She emphasized that the Police Command remains dedicated to:
-
Enforcing the Law: Ensuring accountability for all perpetrators of violent crimes without fear or favor.
-
Protecting Citizens: Safeguarding the rights and dignity of all residents within Abia State.
-
Ongoing Cooperation: Urging the public to continue providing actionable information to security agencies to help maintain law and order.
The VCRU has pledged to see that justice is served for the victim. The Police Command has promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
