ABUJA — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has emphasized the administration’s commitment to completing legacy projects in the nation's capital, stating that a significant majority of the infrastructure projects commissioned under President Bola Tinubu were initiated by previous administrations.

Wike made these remarks on Tuesday during the official commissioning of the two main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), which connects the Ring Road I Junction (near Gudu Cemetery) to the Ring Road II Junction (Kabusha Junction).

Prioritizing Continuity in Governance

Highlighting the administration's "Renewed Hope" approach to urban development, Wike pointed out that abandoning projects due to political transitions has historically hindered progress in the FCT. He stressed that President Tinubu’s leadership is defined by the determination to finalize long-overdue infrastructure rather than leaving them to deteriorate.

"If we want to be conservative, at least 80% of projects that we have completed are projects initiated by various administrations," Wike stated. "Some people would have said there is no need for that, let us start our own, but Mr. President understands that these projects are for the people."

The Minister specifically noted the Apo Mechanics Village area, where successive governments had made unfulfilled promises to relocate informal businesses to decongest the expressway. Under the current administration, those plans have been moved toward actualization, demonstrating a commitment to resolving long-standing logistical bottlenecks.

Wike praised the construction firm, CGC, for their dedication to meeting project deadlines, noting that frequent inspections were conducted to ensure the work stayed on track. He argued that this focus on completion proves that with determination and political will, significant infrastructure goals can be achieved regardless of when they were first conceived.

This emphasis on continuity has been a cornerstone of Wike’s tenure as FCT Minister.
