ABUJA - Residents of the Byazhin area in Kubwa, a densely populated suburb within the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, were thrown into a state of panic early Thursday morning following a deadly attack by armed men.
The assailants, estimated by eyewitnesses to be about 28 in number, stormed the community under the cover of darkness. According to a local resident who identified himself as Aliyu, the gunmen appeared to have been monitoring the area for some time before launching their assault. During the ensuing chaos, the invaders shot a vigilante from behind as he attempted to secure the community. The vigilante later succumbed to his wounds, and his remains have since been laid to rest.
The gunmen successfully rounded up four residents, leading them into the thick vegetation surrounding the area before disappearing.
A security source confirmed the incident on Friday, noting that the community has been grieving since the tragedy. The source disclosed that a joint operation involving the military, police, and local vigilante groups has been launched to comb the surrounding bushes in a bid to rescue the kidnapped victims and track down the perpetrators.
Efforts to obtain an official comment from the FCT Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of this report, as calls placed to the spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, were not returned and her line remained unreachable.
The attack marks yet another violent raid in the Kubwa area, which has become a growing concern for authorities and residents alike. Local community members are now calling for a more robust and permanent security presence in the suburb to curb the rising tide of criminality.
