ILORIN — Renewed security concerns have emerged in Kwara State following the abduction of a primary school teacher, Shina Adeoye, by suspected terrorists. The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday, June 4, 2026, while the victim was traveling to work along the Obbo Ile–Eruku Road in the Ekiti Local Government Area.

Details of the Abduction

According to community sources, armed attackers intercepted Mr. Adeoye, who teaches at the Cooperative Primary School in Eruku, and forcibly took him to an undisclosed location. As of the time of reporting, his whereabouts remain unknown, and efforts to secure his release are ongoing.

Growing Insecurity in Ekiti LGA

Local residents have expressed deep frustration and alarm, describing the abduction as a stark reminder of the deteriorating security situation along the Obbo Ile–Eruku axis. Many who spoke anonymously highlighted what they called a "near-total absence" of visible security presence on the road. Despite repeated appeals to state authorities regarding the dangers of this route, residents claim little has been done to address the vulnerability of travelers and commuters.

The area has been a flashpoint for criminal activity for several months. In November 2025, the Eruku community suffered a deadly attack that resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, which was widely condemned by state officials and community leaders.

Residents are now calling on the Kwara State government and federal security agencies to take urgent, decisive action. The community emphasizes that without a significant increase in security personnel and regular patrols, criminal gangs will continue to exploit these security gaps, further endangering the lives of teachers, farmers, and travelers in the region.
