JALINGO — To mark his third anniversary in office, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has announced a significant financial injection of N500 million aimed at empowering the state’s youth through a new start-up support program.
Boosting Youth Entrepreneurship
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, May 29, 2026, Governor Kefas emphasized that the empowerment initiative set to launch in June 2026 is a cornerstone of his administration’s strategy to tackle unemployment and foster economic self-reliance.
To ensure transparency and effective implementation, the government has already commissioned biometric data-capturing facilities. So far, 296 youths have been registered, and they will be the first beneficiaries of the funds, which are earmarked for business starter packs. "Our administration strongly believes that the future of Taraba State depends largely on the empowerment and development of young people," the Governor stated.
Infrastructure and Economic Expansion
Beyond youth empowerment, Governor Kefas highlighted the administration's progress in infrastructure:
• Transportation & Connectivity: The government is collaborating with the Federal Government on the Ibi Bridgeproject across the River Benue. Additionally, feasibility studies are underway for new bridges in the Chinkai and Karim Lamido corridors.
• Road Projects: Work continues on major routes, including the Mararaba-Biassa Abong Road, Takum-Lissam Road, Wukari-Kente-Chinkai Road, and various township roads in Jalingo and Wukari.
Education and Healthcare Reforms
The Governor reflected on the administration's performance in social services, citing the "state of emergency" declared in the education sector in 2023. This policy has led to increased access to free, compulsory basic education and modernized learning environments. In the health sector, the administration has focused on hospital upgrades and improved equipment to strengthen public health delivery across the state.
