ABUJA — The Nigerian Senate has formally dismissed allegations raised by Senator Adams Oshiomhole that signatures of lawmakers were forged or improperly included in the report that led to the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in March 2025.

Senate Spokesman, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, speaking to journalists on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, characterized Oshiomhole’s claims as "unfounded" and a product of political "mischief." Adaramodu maintained that the disciplinary action against the Kogi Central senator followed strict due process and was conducted openly on the floor of the Senate, in the presence of the media and the public.

"Senator Natasha was sanctioned for violating Senate rules. We made it clear that if anyone fails to abide by the rules, there will be consequences," Adaramodu stated. He further clarified that the matter was referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, noting that Akpoti-Uduaghan had been invited to appear before the panel but failed to do so.

Reacting specifically to Oshiomhole's allegation made during a recent television interview that at least three senators privately complained their signatures were forged or improperly attached to the report, Adaramodu dismissed the premise. "The issue of whether some people signed a document or did not sign a document simply did not arise. Furthermore, Senator Adams Oshiomhole is not an advocate for other senators," he said.

The Senate spokesperson questioned the timing of the allegation, noting that the events took place over a year ago. "This issue being raised now concerns an event that occurred about a year ago. Somebody is simply making it up now, and I think that smacks of mischief."

Adaramodu also announced that the Senate leadership intends to review Oshiomhole's public comments. "We are going to review any statements made by him. The Senate will take a cursory look at either extraneous, spontaneous, or intentional comments from any senator appropriately. We are going to look into it, take a stand, and everyone will know where we stand."

The suspension of Akpoti-Uduaghan in 2025, which included the withdrawal of her salary and allowances and the closure of her office, was a highly contentious episode in the 10th Senate, stemming from a public dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. While the Senate maintains the suspension was based on breaches of legislative rules, Oshiomhole’s recent remarks have reignited public debate and scrutiny over the integrity of the process.
