MARARABA, NASARAWA — An eight-month pregnant woman, Halima Yusuf, has approached the Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, seeking the formal confirmation of her divorce from her husband, Isah.

Allegations of Abuse and Neglect

In her petition, Halima detailed a pattern of mistreatment by her husband, specifically accusing him of physical assault. Beyond the allegations of abuse, she cited a severe lack of spousal support, telling the court that Isah has failed to fulfill his fundamental responsibilities.

"We got married under Sharia Islamic law. Isah does not provide food, clothing, or healthcare for me," Halima stated. She informed the court that she has been living at her parents’ home in Mararaba for some time due to the breakdown of the marriage.

Court Proceedings

Halima has formally requested that the court grant the confirmation of the divorce. Furthermore, she has prayed for an order compelling Isah to assume full financial and social responsibility for her pregnancy and the welfare of their unborn child.

The presiding judge, Mohammed Yakubu, has adjourned the matter until June 11, 2026, for a formal hearing.
