OGBOMOSO, Oyo State — The Oyo State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation following an armed invasion of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Passport Office in Ogbomoso. The attack, which took place on the night of Tuesday, June 2, 2026, resulted in the theft of official firearms and other valuables.

The Incident

According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, the attack occurred at approximately 8:45 pm. Five assailants gained access to the facility located along the Ogbomoso Ilorin Expressway by scaling the rear perimeter fence that borders an expanse of bushland.

The hoodlums overwhelmed the two immigration officers on night duty, assaulting them with sticks and other weapons. The attackers successfully made away with:

A G3 rifle with its full magazine of ammunition.

A mobile phone belonging to an officer.

A power-generating set.

A motorcycle battery.

The injured officers were promptly provided with medical attention and are currently reported to be in stable condition.

Police Response and Manhunt

In response to the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbemiga Abimbola, immediately deployed the Command’s Monitoring Unit and specialized surveillance teams to the scene. The police have since intensified tactical operations, including:

Bush Combing: Tactical teams are scouring the surrounding areas and identified escape routes to track the perpetrators.

Inter-Agency Task Team: The CP and the State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service have formed a joint task team to coordinate the investigation and ensure the recovery of the stolen rifle.

Intelligence Activation: The Command has engaged local informants and activated intelligence assets to generate actionable information regarding the identity and location of the suspects.

Public Reassurance

Commissioner Abimbola has reassured residents of Ogbomoso that the Command is committed to neutralizing criminal threats in the area. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency channels.

"All information received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality," the statement added, as the joint security effort continues to hunt for the attackers.
