IBADAN - The 2027 governorship race in Oyo State gained significant momentum on Tuesday as prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Ibarapa zone officially endorsed Senator Sharafadeen Alli as their preferred choice for the party's ticket.
The endorsement, which took place during a high-profile stakeholder meeting, was coupled with a massive show of support from the lawmaker, who donated N10 million and a brand-new 18-seater bus to the state chapter of the party to strengthen its administrative operations.
Unanimous Support from the Ibarapa Bloc
The Ibarapa zone, a critical voting bloc within the Oyo South senatorial district, cited Senator Alli’s "leadership qualities and widespread acceptability" as the driving force behind their decision. The meeting was presided over by the Ibarapa APC leader, Chief Alarape Jolaoso, and attended by top elders, including Apostle Zacchaeus Aderounmu and Alhaji Olayide Abas.
Why the Leaders are Backing Alli:
-
Track Record: Stakeholders noted his deep connection with the grassroots and his extensive experience in public service.
-
Party Loyalty: He was described as a "bridge-builder" who has consistently contributed to the stability of the APC structure in Oyo State.
-
Unified Vision: Chief Jolaoso stated that the decision followed extensive consultations across the three local government areas in Ibarapa, ensuring the zone remains united behind a single candidate.
Strengthening the Party Structure
In a move to bolster the party's mobility and coordination ahead of future engagements, Senator Alli officially handed over a new bus and a cash donation of N10 million at the party's state secretariat.
Receiving the donations, the State Chairman and former Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo, praised the Senator’s dedication. Adeyemo noted that the gesture was "timely" and would significantly enhance the party's logistics and administrative effectiveness across all 33 local governments in the state.
Alli’s Commitment to Inclusive Growth
In his response to the endorsement, Senator Alli expressed profound gratitude to the Ibarapa leaders, promising that their trust would be rewarded with an inclusive administration. He pledged that if elected, his government would prioritize development in every zone, ensuring that no community is marginalized in the governance process.
