AKURE — The Ondo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has officially launched the "Lucky Light Initiative," a comprehensive solar empowerment program aimed at providing reliable renewable energy solutions to small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) across the state.

Addressing Energy Challenges

The initiative is a flagship component of the Governor’s "OUR EASE" development agenda, which prioritizes entrepreneurship, industrial growth, and economic prosperity. Designed to tackle the persistent challenges of high electricity costs and supply unreliability, the program seeks to transition businesses away from costly, environment-harming fuel-powered generators toward sustainable energy.

Program Scope and Implementation

The initiative is scheduled for rollout in phases over the next five years, targeting 1,000 businesses across all 18 local government areas of Ondo State. Key sectors slated to benefit from the program include:

      •  Agro-processing

      •  Fashion and garment production

      •  Food production and retail

      •  Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and digital services

      •  The creative industry

Selected beneficiaries will receive complete solar energy systems, which include high-efficiency solar panels, inverters, battery storage facilities, charge controllers, and professional installation support.

Economic Impact Projections

The government anticipates significant economic dividends from the rollout of the Lucky Light Initiative:

  • Cost Reduction: Participating businesses are projected to reduce their energy-related operating costs by up to 70 percent.

  • Increased Productivity: Enhanced access to reliable power is expected to boost operational capacity, with business hours and overall productivity projected to rise by 30 to 60 percent.

  • Macro-Economic Value: Analysts estimate that the initiative could inject over N2 billion in annual economic value into the state, fostering job creation and strengthening local enterprise ecosystems.

During the unveiling, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the program is not merely an energy intervention but a strategic move to stimulate grassroots growth, bolster investor confidence, and improve the overall ease of doing business within the "Sunshine State." As implementation begins, the administration aims to establish a sustainable model that balances economic expansion with the adoption of clean, renewable energy solutions.
