NGALA, Borno — Troops from the 3 Battalion (Mechanised), 24 Task Force Brigade, successfully repelled a coordinated assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State early Friday morning.

The attack, which began at approximately 2:44 a.m., saw insurgents launch synchronized strikes on the military location from three distinct directions: Wurge, Manawaji, and Kinuba.

Engagement and Operational Success

According to security sources, the defending troops utilized superior firepower to neutralize the threat. The military response was bolstered by reinforcements from the battalion headquarters, supported by effective mortar and artillery fire, which forced the insurgents to break contact and retreat into the surrounding bush.

By 5:45 a.m., troops and auxiliary forces initiated a follow-up operation along the terrorists' withdrawal route toward Wurge. During this sweep, they recovered the following items:

      •  Three RPG-7 high-explosive unexploded ordnances (UXOs)

     •  Two torchlights

Status of Personnel and Equipment

During the engagement, one soldier sustained injuries from shrapnel caused by an RPG blast and was promptly evacuated to the 3 Battalion Regimental Aid Post (RAP) for medical attention. Additionally, military authorities reported that a main battle tank suffered minor technical faults in the aftermath of the firefight.

Military command has reaffirmed its commitment to the theatre of operations, stating that clearance and follow-up patrols are continuing across the area. These efforts are designed to consolidate gains and prevent the regrouping of terrorist elements in the region.
