LAGOS — The Lagos State Government has announced a five-day temporary closure of the Iddo Bridge in the Apapa Local Government Area to facilitate critical infrastructure work. The closure is intended to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to install heavy steel bridge beams as part of the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction project on the structure.
State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed the closure in a statement released on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. He urged motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials to ensure the safety of workers and the public throughout the construction period.
According to the schedule provided by the Ministry of Transportation, the bridge will undergo closures at the following times:
• Phase 1: June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
• Phase 2: June 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
During these designated windows, the entire section of the Iddo Bridge will be closed to all vehicular movement. The project, coordinated by the Office of the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, is part of a broader initiative to strengthen the integrity and longevity of the bridge, which serves as a vital artery for transport within the Apapa area.
Authorities advise road users to plan their travel routes accordingly to avoid potential congestion resulting from the diversion of traffic during these hours. Traffic management personnel will be deployed to provide guidance and ensure the smooth flow of vehicles on alternative routes.
