ROME — Italian authorities have arrested five individuals in connection with the kidnapping and repeated assault of a 32-year-old Colombian tourist. The victim, who was held captive for three days on the outskirts of Rome, has been rescued and is receiving medical care.
The Incident
According to preliminary police reports, the woman was approached outside a restaurant in Rome on May 19 by a man who allegedly lured her under the guise of selling cannabis. She was subsequently coerced into a vehicle and transported to an abandoned building located on the eastern outskirts of the capital.
Investigators state that the victim was held against her will for approximately 72 hours. During this period, she was reportedly drugged, threatened, and subjected to repeated physical assaults by multiple suspects. The woman eventually managed to escape the property and was discovered on a roadside by a passing motorist, who immediately alerted authorities and transported her to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Police Response and Arrests
Following the victim’s recovery, Italian law enforcement launched an urgent investigation, leading to a tactical raid on the abandoned building where the assault took place. Five men, ranging in age from 29 to 43, were apprehended during the operation.
The suspects have been identified as:
• Two Nigerian nationals
• Two Gambian nationals
• One Malian national
All five men remain in police custody as formal legal proceedings begin. Authorities have stated that while the investigation remains ongoing, further operational details are currently being withheld to protect the integrity of the case.
