MINA, SAUDI ARABIA — Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has announced a significant welfare package for the state's contingent at the 2026 Hajj, approving a donation of 1,000 Saudi Riyals (approximately N450,000) for each of the 2,410 pilgrims.
Easing the Financial Burden
The announcement was made on Thursday night by the Sokoto State Amirul Hajj, Muhammad Mai Gari Dingyadi. According to Dingyadi, the gesture is designed to support the pilgrims as they conclude the Hajj rites, helping to offset their final expenses and facilitate a comfortable journey back to Nigeria.
“Governor Ahmed Aliyu has approved the donation of 1,000 Saudi Riyals to each pilgrim from Sokoto State as a Sallah package to support them during their stay and return journey,” Dingyadi stated.
Commending Exemplary Conduct
In addition to the financial support, the Amirul Hajj praised the Sokoto contingent for their discipline throughout the pilgrimage. He noted that the pilgrims had acted as worthy ambassadors of the state, maintaining full compliance with Saudi Arabian laws and regulations.
“We are proud of the exemplary behaviour displayed by Sokoto pilgrims. None of them was involved in any violation of Saudi laws,” Dingyadi added.
A Call for National Unity
The Amirul Hajj used the occasion to reinforce the commitment of Governor Aliyu’s administration to the welfare of the state’s citizens. He also urged the pilgrims to use the remainder of their time in the Holy Land to offer special prayers for the restoration of peace, security, and economic progress in both Sokoto State and the broader Nigerian federation.
