YOLA, Nigeria — A tragic road accident occurred on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, along the Yola–Mubi road in Adamawa State, resulting in the loss of six lives. The crash, which took place around 1:50 p.m. in the Narehi area of Girei/Song Local Government Area, involved a head-on collision between a military gun truck and a commercial Hummer bus.
Details of the Incident
The Collision: The military gun truck, traveling from Gombi toward Yola, collided head-on with a commercial Hummer bus carrying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.
Fire and Fatalities: The impact of the collision caused the commercial bus to flip over and immediately burst into flames. Tragically, all five passengers on board the bus were trapped and burnt to death.
Additional Casualties: The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed that, in addition to the five bus passengers, one soldier attached to the military gun truck also lost his life in the incident.
Identification of Victims
Police authorities have confirmed that four of the five deceased passengers on the bus were serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Adamawa State.
Identified Victims: Among the corps members identified are Suleiman Juliet (female) and Usman Shuaibu(male), both indigenes of Kaduna State.
Ongoing Efforts: Authorities are working to identify the remaining two corps members and the fifth passenger who was traveling in the commercial bus. The remains of all victims have been deposited at the Specialist Hospital, Yola, to facilitate the identification process and notification of the bereaved families.

The Adamawa State Police Command, through spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident and expressed deep regret. The State Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, has extended his condolences to the families of the victims, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the NYSC. Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri also mourned the loss, describing the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy for both the state and the nation.
