IBADAN — Security agencies have launched an urgent investigation following the abduction of Busayo John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.
Details of the Incident
The abduction occurred on the morning of Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m. near the Challenge area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Attack: Witnesses reported that the victims were intercepted by gunmen traveling in a silver Toyota Camry. The attackers forcefully broke the window of Mrs. John-Paul’s white Hyundai Sonata before taking the three victims and fleeing toward the Molete expressway.
Family Context: According to Femi Awogboro, media aide to Adebayo Adelabu, the family members were preparing to join Mrs. John-Paul’s husband, who had recently relocated to the United States.
Official Response
The Adelabu family issued a statement expressing deep distress while confirming that they have contacted all relevant law enforcement agencies. They remain hopeful for the safe return of the victims and have appealed for public calm and support.
The Oyo State Police Command has officially confirmed the incident. Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade stated that investigations are underway and that a rescue operation is currently in progress to track down the perpetrators.
