KANO — Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a high-profile arms courier in Kano State, disrupting a supply chain intended to fuel violent criminal activity in Zamfara State.

The suspect was apprehended on Friday in Gezawa Local Government Area following precise intelligence reports. The interception occurred while the courier was allegedly transporting a significant cache of weaponry from Maigatari, Jigawa State, with Funtua, Katsina State, identified as a transit point for delivery to a notorious bandit leader.

Seized Arsenal

During the operation, security agents recovered a dangerous arsenal, which the DSS confirmed included:

      •  Three AK-47 rifles

      •  Four Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes

      •  Four RPG warheads

      •  Two empty magazines

Disrupting the Logistics Network

Under preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to being contracted for the delivery, stating he was promised a payment of ₦450,000 upon reaching his destination.

The DSS has hailed the arrest as a critical breakthrough in the ongoing multi-agency effort to dismantle the logistics networks that sustain banditry and terrorism across Nigeria’s Northwest. "Investigations are ongoing to unravel the network behind the arms movement and identify other collaborators involved in the operation," the operational report stated.

The suspect remains in DSS custody as authorities widen their search for the criminal kingpins orchestrating the supply of illegal firearms into the region.
