AWKA — The Anambra State Government has confirmed the arrest of Pastor Harrison Charles, the founder of Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, following serious allegations involving child trafficking, sexual misconduct, and the abuse of church members.

Circumstances of the Arrest

The arrest was executed on Friday, June 12, 2026, by operatives of the state security group, Agunechemba. The operation followed a series of viral social media videos in which various accusers leveled grave allegations against the cleric. These accusations included claims that the pastor systematically interfered in the marriages of his congregants, engaged in underage marriage, and utilized deceptive practices to exert control over his followers.

Discovery of 11 Children

During the subsequent search of the pastor’s premises, authorities discovered 11 infants. In his initial statements to investigators, Pastor Charles claimed to be the father of all 11 children, asserting that they were born to 11 different wives. However, the cleric’s inability to provide a coherent account of the number of women he has married or the total number of children he has sired has prompted deep skepticism from state authorities.

Government Investigation and Call for Information

Dr. Ejimofor Opara, Special Adviser on Media to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, confirmed in a statement on Saturday that the state government is working in close collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a thorough investigation.

The state government has issued a public appeal for cooperation. Mr. Ken Emeakayi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, has requested that any members of the public with relevant information or testimony regarding Pastor Charles’s activities contact the government immediately.
