AWKA — The Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka has granted bail in the sum of ₦50 million to a prominent Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu Ezenagu, widely known as “Muomiri Afuluanya.”
Bail Conditions
Presiding Judge, Justice Jude Obiora, delivered the ruling on Friday, June 19, 2026. In addition to the ₦50 million bond, the court imposed specific conditions to ensure the defendant’s appearance for trial:

Surety: The defendant must provide a surety in the like sum of ₦50 million.

Property Forfeiture: The defendant is required to deposit the title documents of a house, which will be subject to forfeiture should he jump bail.

Media Restriction: Ezenagu is strictly barred from granting any press interviews for the duration of his trial.
Counsel for the defendant, Kingsley Awuka, expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, stating, "The court was gracious in granting the bail, and deservedly so. We are confident that justice will take its course."
Legal Context and Charges
Ezenagu is facing charges brought by the Anambra State Government, led by Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, for alleged violations of the state’s Homeland Security Law.
The defendant was initially apprehended on March 26, 2026, by Agunechemba, the state’s security outfit. Following his arrest, security operatives conducted a search of his Nnewi residence as part of an investigation into his practices. Ken Emeakayi, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, had previously alleged that Ezenagu was encouraging youths to engage in ritual practices with promises of wealth, including bathing in a stream located behind his residence—activities Emeakayi described as a direct breach of state security regulations.
Following his initial court appearance on June 3, where his bail application on health grounds was opposed by the prosecution, Ezenagu had been remanded at the Amawbia Correctional Centre. With this latest ruling, he is expected to meet his bail conditions to secure his release from custody pending the next stage of his trial.
