Real Madrid have suffered a setback after the Spanish Football Federation’s Appeals Committee rejected the club’s appeal against Vinícius Júnior’s four-match suspension in La Liga. The Brazilian forward is set to miss four league fixtures, including the highly anticipated El Clásico against Barcelona, as the Spanish giants prepare to take their case to Spain’s Administrative Court for Sport (TAD).
Vinícius Jr to Miss Four Important Matches
The Appeals Committee confirmed the suspension on Friday, October 16, 2026, leaving Real Madrid without one of their key attacking players for a difficult run of domestic fixtures.
The Brazilian will miss the following La Liga matches:
• ❌ Sevilla — October 18
• ❌ Barcelona — October 25
• ❌ Racing Santander — November 1
• ❌ Valencia — November 7
The suspension means Vinícius will be unavailable for the first El Clásico of the season at Barcelona’s home ground. His expected return to La Liga action is against Celta Vigo after the November international break, subject to any change in the disciplinary decision.
Why Was Vinícius Suspended?
The four-match ban followed Vinícius’ sending-off during Real Madrid’s 1–0 victory over Villarreal on October 10.
The forward was shown a red card after pulling the hair of Villarreal player Nathan Saliba during an attacking sequence. The incident led to the cancellation of a goal, and the referee subsequently dismissed the Brazilian.
The disciplinary committee imposed two matches of suspension for the hair-pulling incident and another two matches for his protests towards the referee after the red card.
The Appeals Committee rejected Real Madrid’s arguments that the punishment should be overturned or reduced, maintaining that the original decision was justified under the applicable disciplinary rules.
Real Madrid Prepare to Appeal to TAD
Despite the rejection, Real Madrid are not giving up their efforts to reduce the suspension. The club plans to take the case to Spain’s Administrative Court for Sport, known as TAD, seeking to overturn or reduce the punishment.
The next appeal represents another opportunity for the club to challenge the disciplinary ruling. However, until a new decision changes the sanction or suspends its enforcement, Vinícius remains unavailable for the four league matches.
The outcome of the next appeal will be particularly important because the Barcelona fixture is scheduled for October 25, leaving little time for the club to secure a decision before the match.
A Major Challenge Ahead of El Clásico
Vinícius’ absence presents a significant selection challenge for Real Madrid as they prepare to face Barcelona. The Brazilian has been an important part of the club’s attacking plans, and his suspension removes one of their main forward options during a demanding period.
The Clásico is one of the most closely watched fixtures in Spanish football, making his potential absence particularly significant for the team and its supporters.
For now, Real Madrid must prepare for the upcoming matches without him while pursuing their final avenue of appeal. Whether Vinícius will be available for the Barcelona encounter will depend on the outcome of that process.
