SALZBURG — RB Salzburg are reportedly on the verge of appointing Danny Röhl as their new head coach. According to reports from Sky Germany, negotiations are in the final stages, with an official announcement expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

Return to the Red Bull Network

The 37 year-old manager’s impending move to the Austrian Bundesliga marks a return to familiar territory. Röhl began his career within the Red Bull system as a video analyst for RB Leipzig before ascending to an assistant manager role at the Bundesliga club between 2016 and 2018. His career trajectory has since seen him hold high-profile positions, including assistant manager roles at Bayern Munich and the German national team under Hansi Flick, before a tenure as Sheffield Wednesday manager from 2023 to 2025.

A Successful but Narrow Miss at Rangers

Röhl’s departure comes after an eight-month tenure at Ibrox. Appointed in October 2025, the German coach oversaw a competitive campaign in the Scottish Premiership, registering 18 victories in 25 league matches. Despite a strong points tally, the club ultimately fell short of the league title, finishing the season with six draws and one defeat.

The transition to RB Salzburg provides Röhl with an opportunity to implement his tactical philosophy in the Austrian league, where the club is looking to embark on a summer overhaul following a disappointing third-place finish last term.

Finalizing the Transition

While Rangers are set to receive a significant seven-figure compensation fee for the head coach, the move is widely viewed as a mutually beneficial transition. For Röhl, the appointment at Salzburg offers a return to a familiar organizational structure and the chance to manage a club that consistently competes in European football.
