The Portuguese Football Federation says preparations for the upcoming matches will continue with the remaining 24 players after Ronaldo's departure.
The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has officially confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo has left the Portugal national team camp.
The federation issued a brief statement following Ronaldo's announcement that he had decided to leave the squad after a conversation with FPF president Pedro Proença and a press conference by head coach Jorge Jesus.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has left the national team camp,” the Portuguese federation said.
“Our preparations for the next games continue with our 24 players with maximum focus on the results.”
The confirmation removes any uncertainty over whether Ronaldo remains with the squad for Portugal's upcoming Nations League fixtures.
Ronaldo Leaves Camp After Tense Developments
Ronaldo announced his departure earlier on Wednesday, saying his decision followed Jesus' press conference and a conversation with Proença.
The Portugal captain did not disclose the specific reason for leaving.
He said he would eventually tell Portuguese supporters the truth about the circumstances that led to his departure, while wishing Portugal and his teammates good luck.
The announcement came after several developments involving Ronaldo and Jesus during the current international break.
Ronaldo was an unused substitute in Portugal's 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway. It was the first time in many years that he had remained on the bench for an entire competitive international match while available for selection.
He subsequently missed team training, although Jesus initially denied that there was a feud between the pair.
Jorge Jesus Says Ronaldo Would Not Start Against Denmark
At his press conference on Wednesday, Jesus confirmed that Ronaldo would not start Portugal's next match against Denmark.
The coach said Gonçalo Ramos would start if everything went according to plan and emphasized that selection decisions were his responsibility.
Jesus had also said that Ronaldo would participate in training despite his absence from the previous session.
Ronaldo subsequently left the training venue, with Portuguese media reporting that he had departed in a vehicle belonging to the Portuguese Football Federation. Reuters later confirmed that Ronaldo had left the camp.
Portugal Will Continue With 24 Players
The FPF's latest statement makes clear that the squad will continue preparing without Ronaldo.
The federation specifically said preparations would continue with 24 players, while emphasizing its focus on results.
Portugal is scheduled to face Denmark in the UEFA Nations League, with Ronaldo's departure leaving the team without its captain and record international goalscorer for the upcoming fixture.
