Today, June 3, 2026, marks the 134th anniversary of the official founding of Liverpool Football Club.
The club's origins trace back to a historic split from Everton FC in March 1892. Following a dispute regarding the rental of Anfield, Everton moved to what would eventually become Goodison Park. Left with a vacant stadium, founder John Houlding and his associates decided to establish a new team.
On this day in 1892, their efforts were formalized when the Board of Trade ratified the existence of "Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Limited." The rest, as they say, is history beginning with the club's first-ever match at Anfield on September 1, 1892, where they secured a 7-1 victory over Rotherham Town.
