HOUSTON — Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden was arrested on Saturday morning in Houston on a charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon. The 36-year-old NBA star was detained following a traffic stop and has since been released on bond.
According to Harris County court records, a police officer stopped Harden at 3:41 a.m. local time after observing the vehicle in downtown Houston. During the interaction, the officer identified an unconcealed handgun positioned in the cup holder of Harden’s Mercedes. Upon confirming ownership of the firearm, Harden was taken into custody and booked at the Harris County Jail.
The former league MVP was released shortly thereafter on a $100 bond. A court appearance regarding the incident has been scheduled for June 22.

Harden, a six-time first-team All-NBA selection and the 2017-18 league MVP, has had a long and storied career since entering the NBA as the third overall pick in the 2009 draft.
