CLEVELAND — Brazil’s World Cup preparations have been hit by a significant personnel setback. Right-back Wesley has been officially ruled out of the 2026 tournament following a muscle injury in his left thigh sustained during Saturday night’s friendly match against Egypt.

Injury Confirmed

Wesley was forced to leave the pitch early in Cleveland after pulling up during the match. Subsequent medical imaging confirmed the injury is severe enough to prevent his participation in the upcoming competition.

In a statement expressing solidarity with the defender, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said: “Wesley is an athlete loved by the group and will always be considered part of this team that seeks the six-time world championship.”

Squad Adjustment

To maintain a full complement of 26 players, head coach Dorival Júnior has called up 26-year-old midfielder Éderson as the official replacement. Éderson is expected to join the squad in the United States immediately as the team prepares to open their Group C campaign.

While the right-back position has been addressed, the squad remains under the shadow of uncertainty regarding star forward Neymar. The 34 year-old did not travel to Cleveland for the Egypt friendly as he continues his recovery from a persistent calf injury. His availability for the group stage opener remains a critical question for the coaching staff.
