LIVERPOOL — Defender Ibrahima Konaté has officially confirmed his departure from Liverpool. The 27 year-old center-back will leave Anfield as a free agent this summer after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract.

His exit marks the end of a highly successful five-year tenure on Merseyside, during which he became a core figure in the Reds' defensive setup.

A Legacy of Trophies

Since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021, Konaté made 183 appearances for the club, contributing significantly to a period of sustained silverware. His trophy cabinet at Liverpool includes:

      •  Premier League Title

      •  FA Cup

      •  Two Carabao Cups

      •  Community Shield

An Emotional Goodbye

In a heartfelt statement shared with the fans, Konaté expressed deep regret that he was unable to bid a proper farewell at Anfield during his final match. He reflected on the personal and professional challenges he faced during his time at the club, notably the passing of his father earlier this year.

"Losing my father this year was one of the hardest periods of my life, but even through hardship, my commitment to this club never changed," Konaté wrote. "Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted."

He concluded his message with the club's iconic mantra: "I love you all and will carry Liverpool with me wherever I go. See you again soon, Inshallah. YNWA."

Liverpool’s Defensive Transition

Konaté’s departure comes amidst a period of strategic reshuffling for Liverpool’s backline. The club has already secured the signing of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in a £60 million deal, though the young defender is currently recovering from a shoulder injury.

With Virgil van Dijk remaining at the club and questions surrounding the future of Joe Gomez who enters the final year of his contract Liverpool is expected to be active in the transfer market to address their defensive depth. Additionally, the club will welcome back Kostas Tsimikas following his loan spell, providing cover as the team moves into a new chapter.
