Iran condemns Israel’s attack on Syria, says West accomplice in genocide, war crimes

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s targeting of a residential building near the Syrian capital of Damascus.

At least seven civilians, mostly women and children, were killed and 20 people were injured after Israel carried out an airstrike on a residential building in Sayeda Zainab district in Damascus countryside on Sunday.

In a statement late on Sunday, Baghaei said the occupying Israeli regime continues to violate Syria’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty simultaneous with its genocidal war in Gaza and aggression against Lebanon.

He added that Israel continues its crimes in the region due to the “unconditional” support of the United States and some other European countries for the regime.

These governments are complicit in Israel’s criminal acts including genocide and war crimes, the spokesman asserted.

‘Israel’s expulsion from UN’

He slammed the relevant international institutions for their inaction on Israel’s genocide against the people of Palestine in Gaza and its continued aggression against Lebanon and Syria.

Baghaei called on the international community to take “practical and effective” measures against Israel, including an arms embargo, its expulsion from the United Nations, and trial of the regime’s officials.

Regional tensions have soared since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023.

Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria since the outbreak of the Western-backed war in 2011.

Syrian authorities have repeatedly called on the United Nations to hold the Tel Aviv regime accountable for targeting civilian areas in the country.
